    The closed guard overhook is one of my favorite positions to work from. Don’t see too many at my gym work from it.

    Well if you do such a terrible roll, then you will get caught in side control each time. Put some speed,timing and explosiness into the roll, and you end up on top

    I had an accident in pretty much this position where my partner tried to turn on the side and throw his leg ontop, but he was just a tad short so what happened was basically a full torque on my toes without any opportunity to tap or move my knee. Somehow all my ligaments survived, but I limped for a month and for like a week I felt it in the ankle, knee and even hip. With some bad luck you could end up giving yourself what is essentially an inside heel hook that comes on with no time to tap. To each their own, but to me the straight ankle is the least of my concerns about that position..

    If you keep control of his wrist you can push it to his chest and set up a baratoplata.

    Kit Dale calls that the Great White grip, if anyone wants some more free details about it. This, by itself, is a pretty freaking awesome introductory to the position!

  • @dadjokes5038

    Love this grip. Been using it in gi for awhile. I think I saw Marcelo Garcia use it. It’s helpful because I’m older and don’t like fighting for that kimura finish against stronger guys. And going for that choke is awesome ! PS. You’re one of the first guys I started watching when I first started Bjj back in 2011. Loved your videos.

  • @qleap99
    @qleap99 9 дней назад

    Generally good advice. However, this plays into the hands of the fighter that uses techniques that rely on knee-jerk resistant reactions. It's just one of those things.

    I like to flow roll and always request light rolls with my partners. I don’t like to be complacent and let them land moves I could otherwise resist but I also want to honor my request to keep the energy low. It’s a hard balance. I don’t want to risk injury to anyone but I also don’t want to ingrain passivity into my instincts.

    I feel like either way you still can get stuffed and your opponent can still get top position or take your back and maybe even transfer to an arm bar sub especially in a real sparring match🤷🏾‍♂️

  • @Chris_Ireland
    @Chris_Ireland 11 дней назад

    He can still get on top of you. And if he puts weight down on u, theres no way you lift all his body weight after u are flattened out. If anyrhing he stuffs that attempt and takes yout back.

  • @MillarMusicTV

    It's give up top position or get caught with an arm bar, both have their weaknesses and just gotta adapt in the moment. Great to know there is more than one way out though.

  • @user-theBeyonder
    @user-theBeyonder 13 дней назад

    That second escape is old school, been using it for 24 years. I prefer it but you better watch out for a mean arm bar if your opponent is really skilled in that field

  • @JiuJitsuInMinutesbyJasonScully

    I would prefer to get the body triangle but not everyone has long legs, and not everyone is skinny. So not everyone can get a body triangle on everyone. This is a good option for those people.

      Thank you. I have been working on being more stable and controlling while on the back so I’ve pushed or positioned my feet on their hip bone thus not allowing their hips to twist and start to escape.
